Living Wage Movement
The Living Wage Aotearoa New Zealand, which asks employers to pay $19.25 per hour to staff and contracted workers rather than the minimum $14.75 per hour, is now looking to establish a network of unions and community groups in Nelson.
Newman said Nelson had expressed interest in the idea before, but that this was the first co-ordinated discussion about the issue.
"The living wage movement resonates with people because it says 'this is something that's achievable,'" she said.
