Hillary Clinton visits Missoula

Hillary Clinton’s town hall meeting in Missoula April 2008 was an intimate affair, but lively too.

About 1,500 supporters were on their feet in Northstar-Neptune Aviation’s hangar to welcome Clinton. She was campaigning in Montana on the heels of her husband, former President Bill Clinton who traveled across the Big Sky State early last week and her Democratic competitor, Barack Obama, who staged a full-house rally at the Adams Center on Saturday.

A long line formed outside the airport hangar just before 8 a.m. Sunday, when the doors opened for Clinton’s gathering. Diane Keefauver, 56, of Missoula, had already been there for four hours, sleeping in the car with her two dogs. She wasn’t taking any chances with getting a good seat.

“I was so excited to be here, even my dogs could feel it,” said Keefauver, who was impressed with the work Clinton did as first lady. “The first thing she does is roll up her sleeves and work on health care instead of passing out tea.”[2]

Two Rivers IWW

The Two Rivers General Membership Branch is up and running. Wobblies in Butte, Missoula, and Hamilton have united to form a GMB. These three cities are tied together by two rivers, the Bitterroot and the Clark Fork. There convergence is in Missoula, a traditionally progressive community; thanks in large part to the University of Montana.

The Two Rivers GMB is actively organizing several job sites. We expect to successfully unveil them over the next several months. We would like to invite all IWWs to come to Montana and enjoy our state's natural wonder and radical past.

Anti-GMO protestor

May 2013 in Missoula hundreds turned out to speak against genetically modified organisms or GMOs and the seed company Monsanto.

Missoula protestors told NBC Montana their goal is to inform folks about the dangers of GMOs and to support a senate backed bill that would require foods made with GMOs to be labeled.

Genetically modified plants come from seeds designed to increase the nutritional value and crop yields but ralliers we talked to say that's not the case and they demand the U.S. Congress allow them to know, through labeling, if there are GMOs in their food.

"We have a right to say if there's GMOs in our food and a right to know if that GMO is in our food," said protestor Diane Keefauver. "Right now they're saying we don't have that right!"

Benjamin Bliss ‘March on Monsanto' event co-organizer says he's hoping to bring awareness to the dangers of eating GMOs and to encourage folks to demand GMOs be labeled. NBC MontanaHundreds turn out to protest GMOs, Monsanto MISSOULA COUNT By: Faith Smith Posted: May 25, 2013]</ref>
