Running for DSA leadership
In 2020 Becca Edwards ran for At-Large Representative Portland Democratic Socialists of America steering committee.:
- I joined the DSA in Orange County after the 2016 election, and soon got involved leading canvasses on the SB-562 singlepayer healthcare campaign and collaborating with Californian DSA chapters. I served on the steering committee for our small chapter and have experience running various reading groups, setting up movie nights, and planning protests against white supremacy. Since moving to Portland I’ve organized with the Socialist Feminist caucus and the Medicare for All caucus and most recently went to the DSA convention as a delegate.
- I have experience in communications that could be an asset for comms chair especially, as well as external chair or at large chair. At the end of the day I want to best apply my skills where I can help the chapter most. I believe in democratic processes for getting things done and bottom-up organizing, so if elected I will support chapter members to run campaigns and facilitate their needs as best we can as a chapter. If elected, I would also work to build out processes and resources that can be used by DSA members and future steering committee chairs.
