Template:TOCnestleft The American Veterans Committee was founded during World War II, in 1944, as a liberal alternative to groups like the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Its motto was "Citizens First, Veterans Second." The AVC faced anti-communist campaigns during the late 1940s and lost significant membership. The AVC didn't fold until 2007 when the last two chapters closed.[1]
