The Michigan Legislative Black Caucus was formed in 1976 after a meeting at the Detroit home of Rep. Morris Hood, Jr., where he was elected as the first Caucus Chairman.[1]
About
The Michigan Legislative Black Caucus is a coalition of 25 state legislators "committed to ensuring that all citizens of our state have equal opportunities." The caucus includes members of both the state Senate and the state House of Representatives.[2]

Events
The Caucus has hosted the following events.
Tribute to Michigan's Women of Color
On Feb. 22, 2011, the Caucus held an event entitled "Charline White/Cora Brown Luncheon: Tribute to Michigan's Women of Color". At the event they honored five Michigan women of color "who have made significant contributions to the citizens of Michigan." The recipients were: Hortense Golden Canady, Honorable Alma G. Stallworth, Dr. Violet T. Lewis, Honorable Erma Henderson, and Alberta Dixon Wilkerson, R.N.[3]
