Polly Halfkenny has been a member of the National Lawyers Guild since she graduated from Northeastern University School of Law in 1995. She is a longtime member of the NLG labor and employment committee, has been its co-chair for several years, and previously served as its representative on the NEC. As a unionside labor attorney, Polly currently works as a staff attorney for Transport Workers Union Local 100, which represents some 38,000 workers employed by the NYC Transit Authority and by some private bus lines serving the New York City metropolitan area.
Communist Party reformer
In 1991 Polly Halfkenny Massachusetts, was one of several hundred Communist Party USA members to sign the a paper "An initiative to Unite and Renew the Party" - most signatories left the Party after the December 1991 conference to found Committees of Correspondence.
Maurice & Jane Sugar Law Center
In 2009, Polly Halfkenny was a member of the Host Committee for the Essential: Advocacy for Community Justice Reception & Silent Auction which was held at the Atlas Global Bistro, Detroit. The reception, which was held on Nov. 18, 2009 is the annual fundraising event to benefit the far left National Lawyers Guild-affiliated Maurice & Jane Sugar Law Center for Economic & Social Justice. Remarks were made by Steve Tobocman and the Maurice Sugar Voice for Justice Award was presented to Marilyn Mullane, Executive Director, Michigan Legal Services.
