Glenn S. Anderson is a State Senator for Michigan, representing the 6th district.

Glenn S. Anderson was elected to the Michigan State Senate in November 2006 to represent the people of the 6th Senate district, which includes the communities of Garden City, Livonia, Redford Township, and Westland. Anderson serves on the Senate Appropriations Committee and the four related sub committees of Economic Development, Transportation, Higher Education and General Government. In addition, Senator Anderson serves as Assistant Democratic Floor Leader. Prior to his election to the Senate, Anderson represented Michigan's 18th District in the Michigan House of Representatives for six years. Before beginning his tenure in the legislature, Anderson served as Councilman for the City of Westland for nine years.[1]

Background

Before entering public service, Anderson was employed by Ford Motor Company, and has been a member of the UAW since 1972. He has also been a licensed Realtor since 1979. He and his wife Gail have made Westland their home since 1978. [2]

Service

Over the years Senator Anderson has been active in a number of local organizations including the Jaycees, Goodfellows, Rotary, Civitans, Kiwanis, Rouge River Rescue, Churchill High School PTA, Western Wayne NAACP, and the Westland Hockey Association.[3]

Co-Sponsored SB 1306

As at July 7, 2008, Glenn Anderson was a co-sponsor of State Senator Hansen Clarke's Senate Bill 1306, "which would stop all mortgage foreclosures and evictions for two years." The bill is being supported by the Workers World Party-front, Moratorium NOW!.[4]

On January, 13, 2008, Glenn Anderson attended the 2008 Annual Spirit of Millie Jeffrey Award Dinner to Benefit the Camp Millie Progressive Grassroots Training Organization. The keynote speaker was John Cherry, MCing the event was Amos Williams. The dinner was hosted by The Justice Caucus.[5]

Endorsed MichUHCAN

As at Feb. 1, 2011, Senator Glenn Anderson, Westland was listed as an endorser and ongoing supporter of MichUHCAN's Health Care Security Campaign Coalition.[6] The Michigan Universal Health Care Access Network is a state-wide network that promotes comprehensive health care for all and improved health outcomes by addressing the social determinants of health through education, strategy development and advocacy. The leadership of MichUHCAN is heavily dominated by members of Democratic Socialists of America.[7]
