Community Coalition

Community Coalition is an organization in South Los Angeles that fights the alcohol, gun and drug industries through influencing public policy. They believe doing this will stop the conditions that foster addiction, crime, violence and poverty. They built this community institution in order to create, influence and change public policy.
It is made up of community leaders, including former California Assembly Speaker, Karen Bass. Community Coalition, or CoCo, was founded Community Coalition as a non-profit organization in 1990 in response to the 1980's crack cocaine epidemic in South L.A.
CoCo "works with African American and Latino residents to build a prosperous and healthy South L.A. with safe neighborhoods, quality schools, a strong social safety net and positive economic development in order to reduce crime, poverty and substance abuse in our community."[1]
