Anya K Landau French, a native of Athens, Georgia, Anya Landau French (previously Anya Landau) is a prominent activist in the movement to end U.S. sanctions on Cuba. She contributes to the website Havana Note.[1]
Education
Anya Landau French holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Arts in International Education from the George Washington University. She speaks Spanish and German. She has lived in Germany and Spain, and taught English as a foreign language in the Czech Republic.
Center for International Policy
In 2002 Anya Landau was an associate[2]with the Center for International Policy- Cuba Project, in Washington DC.
Her research and publications covered US-Cuba trade, travel, intellectual property, terrorism, and Cuban American attitudes. At the Center, she implemented media, congressional, and public education strategies and events, and organized trips to Cuba for Congressional, business, and civic leaders’ delegations.
Working for Max Baucus
After the Center for International Policy Anya Landau served as International Trade Advisor to Chairman Max Baucus of the Senate Finance Committee. In that capacity she focused on trade and worker adjustment policy, US-Cuba relations, and helped draft and pass the 2006 SAFE Port Act. Previously she advised Senator Baucus on defense, homeland security, immigration, and foreign policy. During her time in the Senate, she worked extensively on issues dealing with U.S. agricultural exports to Cuba, Treasury Department sanctions enforcement and the U.S. ban on travel to Cuba.
German Marshall Fund
As a Transatlantic Fellow with the German Marshall Fund, Landau French focused on trade and foreign aid policy.
Lexington Institute
In 2008, Landau-French joined the Lexington Institute in February 2008 as a Senior Fellow, focusing on US-Cuban affairs. At Lexington Anya landau French published "Options for Engagement: A Resource Guide for Reforming U.S. Policy toward Cuba."[3]
New America Foundation
Anya Landau French joined the New America Foundation’s US– Cuba Policy Initiative in June 2009 as its Research Director. [4][5] Founded in 1999 by Ted Halstead, the Foundation is a leftist public policy institute which claims to be nonpartisan, and seeks pragmatic solutions to "the next generation of challenges facing the United States".[6][7]
